Profile

Tom was born and raised in Michigan City.  He attended Purdue University in West La Fayette, graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Management, majoring in Economics and Marketing.  Upon graduation, he joined his father's insurance agency, Norm Cipares Insurance.  In 1977, Tom and his father sold their agency to General Insurance Services.  Tom earned his CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) designation from the American Institute in 1993.  He has served as President of GIS since 1998.

Tom is past president of The Michigan City Exchange Club, and the Michigan City YMCA.  He has served on numerous not-for-profit boards, including Michigan City Chamber of Commerce, Michiana Industries, St. John's United Church of Christ, and is currently the Chairman of the Advisory Council to the Michigan City Salvation Army.

His service to the insurance community has included serving on Agency Advisory Councils of Zurich Insurance, Indiana Insurance, State Auto Insurance and as Chairman of the Indiana/Kentucky Agents Council of Aetna Life and Casualty. 

Tom enjoys spending time with his family and grandchildren, boating, playing tennis, reading and cooking.
